Introducing Solids Guidance Booklet

Why do I need this? There's so much to know!

How do I use it? Reference for explanations on why and how to use various products (including other products not included in your bundle); evidence-based cheat sheets with tips and advice on common starting solids questions; and words of wisdom and support from other parents. All content has been reviewed with our certified feeding therapist partners to ensure it is medically accurate based on the latest research.

Baby spoons

Why do I need this? Regardless of what method you use to introduce solids, most babies are spoon-fed at least some of the time, for which having a set of traditional feeding spoons (long handles, soft rounded tip, shallow spoon bowl) is a must.

How do I use it? Scoop 1-2 tsp of food on the spoon, bring in front of baby's mouth, and wait until they open mouth to feed.

Which brand? Beaba offers some of the most popular baby feeding products on the market. Their baby feeding spoon tips are made with flexible and ultra-soft silicone, which is gentle on baby's gums and teeth, and a shallow spoon bowl, which is recommended for babies starting solids. Parents like that the handle is comfortable to hold and the spoon design is attractive. Made from food-grade silicone; dishwasher safe.

Self-feeding training spoons

Why do I need this? Training spoons are great for babies learning to self-feed very early on. Look for spoons that are short, gentle on gums, and grip food well so it's easy to scoop & bring food to mouth.

How do I use it? At first, pre-load spoon and let baby bring food to their mouth. Over time, they'll get better at scooping on their own.

Which brand? Olababy training spoons are designed by pediatric feeding experts to encourage baby to start exploring self-feeding. Their design and flexible material allows for easy scooping while doubling as a gentle teether for babies. These spoons have won many prestigious awards judged by members of the pediatrician, feeding specialist, and occupational and speech therapist community. They are made with 100% toxin-free food-grade silicone and are dishwasher safe.

Toddler self-feeding utensils

Why do I need this? Many children start learning to use utensils between 1-2 years old. Look for a set with short handles (easier to maneuver) and forks with tines that are blunt but grab food easily.

How do I use it? Introduce after practicing with training "spoons", first by pre-loading food to show baby how they're used. After months of regular practice (in addition to using hands to self-feed!) toddlers will eventually get the hang of scooping & poking food.

Which brand? Bumkins makes a range of leading products that moms love. This utensils set has stainless steel fork and spoon heads and easy-grip textured silicone handles, all sized and shaped especially for little ones just learning to use utensils. Parents like that the metal fork tines are rounded so are safe, yet they still spear food well (silicone fork tines can be frustrating for babies and toddlers to use because they make it more difficult to spear food and keep food on the fork.) While these utensils are designed for toddlers, but many feeding therapists and parents use stainless steel forks and spoons even sooner. Dishwasher safe.

Silicone bib

Why do I need this? Silicone bibs are popular for use at meals because they are easy to wipe clean and have a pocket at the bottom to catch food from falling onto child's lap.

How do I use it? Secure around child's neck at mealtime. Wipe clean or wash with water and dish soap. Hang to dry.

Which brand? There are so many silicone bibs on the market, many of which are identical. To save you the markup, we have sourced and designed a bib from one of the top silicone manufacturers in the world that also creates bibs for the most widely-loved brands in the US.

Apron bib

Why do I need this? Many parents like to try both silicone and apron bibs. While silicone bibs are the most popular, many parents say apron bibs are less constricting and allow babies to more freely explore the food on their tray or plate. They also fold small for travel and are versatile for use with art projects.

How do I use it? Secure the tie around child's back. To clean, rinse under water and air dry. For frequent use, machine wash & dry 1-2 times a week, ideally in a delicates bag.

Which brand? BapronBaby Baprons have developed a cult following among moms and feeding therapists who love their full-coverage, stain-resistant, and quick-drying apron bibs that tie safely around the body and not the neck. The bibs are sized for a longer fit to catch spills on the lap and that can grow with your baby from 6 months to 3 years.

Open tiny cup

Why do I need this? Babies can start learning cup-drinking skills as early as 6 months when they start solids. A small 1-3oz cup that is easy for baby's tiny hands to grab and bring to mouth is ideal.

How do I use it? First demonstrate how you drink from the little cup. Then, fill the cup with water or breastmilk/formula, bring it to your baby's mouth, let them grab it with you, and assist in holding it up to their lips for a second or two. Once baby gets the hang of it, you can start putting less liquid in the cup each time; this encourages baby to practice tiling the cup for the liquid to reach their mouth.

Which brand? ezpz is a widely-popular brand that creates developmentally-focused products for babies and toddlers at mealtime. This Tiny Cup was thoughtfully designed alongside a pediatric feeding specialist (as all their products are) to be the perfect size, weight, and shape to help infants learn to drink from an open cup, an important milestone that supports healthy oral and speech development. 2oz cup; dishwasher safe; non-toxic food-grade silicone.

Straw cup

Why do I need this? Babies can learn straw-drinking as early as 6 months. By 12 months, pediatricians & dentists advise weaning from bottles, at which point straw cups become a particularly useful substitute. Note that most feeding therapists today advise children not use hard-spouted "sippy" cups becase they encourage drinking in a way that is not ideal for oral-motor development.

How do I use it? If baby doesn't immediately catch on to using it: take any standard straw and use your finger to suction one end to trap a tiny amount of liquid in straw. Offer the side with liquid to your baby. When they open their mouth to put their lips around the straw, take your finger off to allow liquid to enter their mouth. This teaches baby that liquid comes out of the straw. Offer straw cup again; repeat as needed. 2oz cup; dishwasher safe; food-grade and durable silicone.

Which brand? ezpz is a widely-popular brand that creates developmentally-focused products for babies and toddlers at mealtime. This Mini Cup + Straw Training System was thoughtfully designed alongside a pediatric feeding specialist (as all their products are) to teach infants and toddlers to drink from a straw, an important milestone that develops lip rounding and promotes speech development. Parents love it because it is very simply and elegantly designed to make it easy for their babies or toddlers to learn to drink from a straw (and is very easy to clean!). 4oz cup; dishwasher safe; non-toxic food-grade silicone.

Suction plate

Why do I need this? Plates with suction stay more securely in place than non-suction plates, which slide around easily and can be frustrating for babies to use. The suction also makes it harder for your baby to toss the plate on the floor. Some parents (especially those doing baby-led weaning) simply place food directly on the highchair tray at first, and introduce the plate later.

How do I use it? Wash with soap and warm water before using. Some plates are dishwasher and microwave safe while other are not; look at the packaging for details.

Which brand? The silicone plate and bowl in your bundle are from mushie, a relatively new American baby brand that has become very popular among young new parents for its simple, eco-friendly, Nordic-inspired products that look beautiful in any kitchen or nursery. The suction plates and bowls in particular are widely loved because the suction really works. They are made from non-toxic, food-grade silicone and are dishwasher and microwave safe.

Suction bowl

Why do I need this? A bowl is best for serving soft foods like oatmeal, yogurt, apple sauce, purées, and similarly-textured foods. Like the suction plate, a suction bowl stays securely in place, which provides more stability for your baby to scoop food and reduces the mess of babies and toddlers flinging it to the floor.

How do I use it? Wash with soap and warm water before using. Some bowls are dishwasher and microwave safe while others are not; look at the packaging for details.

Testimonials

Casey J.

Mom of James, 4 months

“I find it nearly impossible to cut through the noise of biased product recs online - it seems more and more IG mom influencers are "selling out" and doing so many partnerships. It's refreshing to have a place I can turn for a simple collection of products other moms truly love.”

Kelly B.

Mom of Emma (6), Teddy (3) & baby #3 due soon

“Maybe because I'm juggling several kids and my job I appreciate TIME more than anything, and these Mamieli bundles are saving me so much time getting all the postpartum things I need at once before my third is born in a couple weeks.”

Emma F.

Mom of Abigail (4) and Max (2)

“Mamieli nailed the products in the PP and baby health bundles - I know from experience they work and yes, you need them all. The breastfeeding bundle is probably amazing too but I wasn't able to breastfeed so can't speak to that one.”

Caroline C.

Friend of a soon-to-be first time mama

"The first of my friends is having a baby and I really have no clue about any of this stuff! These bundles feel so thoughtful and helpful for the mom which is what I want to gift her as opposed to only baby toys or clothes.”

Maxi B.

Mom of baby boy on the way

"I've added all the bundles to my registry because they cover so much ground, and a lot of these items are just not giftable as one-off products. For example I feel weird adding a thing of nipple balm to my registry but honestly I'd rather be gifted useful things. It also makes it easier for my friends and family to gift a cohesive package instead of a bunch of one-off things."

    The best postpartum bundle

This box of essential recovery items is curated perfectly for a first time moms as well as myself, a recent fourth time mom. I gifted this box to a first time mom a few months ago at a baby shower. When she went into labor a few weeks early she was so happy to have this box at home with everything she needed for an effortless recovery with her little one. I ordered a second one for myself as I was expecting my fourth. It was AMAZING. There were old stand by items like Tucks, stool softeners and a peri bottle, but then there were surprise favorites like the Frida Mom boy shorts and Rael period underwear that made the first two weeks of recovery more enjoyable. With my past few babies I've sent my partner to the store or ordered last minute things on Amazon for recovery. This time, I just popped open my Mamieli box and had everything I needed. I also enjoyed the postpartum guide that empowered me to get out there for gentle walks a lot sooner. I'm feeling the best two weeks postpartum with baby #4 than I have felt with any of my other postpartum journeys. Item quality is excellent and order fulfillment was also very fast. Thank you Mamieli.

On-the-go box came in handy on my family vacation

I bought this On-the-Go travel box after seeing it on Tiktok because it spoke to me as someone who was a big traveler before my baby and who wanted to continue embracing that travel lifestyle afterwards too, despite all the naysayers who told me I wouldn't be able to do it! Well, we booked a trip to Europe this summer with our 10-month old and while it was definitely different from previous travels it was a great experience, and literally *everything* in this bundle was put to use: the bottle cleaner for cleaning my pump parts in hotel bathrooms, the wipes and baggie dispenser for diaper changes in restaurants and airplane, the snack cup (which I got a lot of questions from other parents about where I got it - it's morepeas brand which I hadn't heard of) for puffs for my baby now that he's having solids, and my favorite of all -- the dolphin toiletry kit!! I filled the dolphins with my son's shampoo, his baby laundry detergent (for cleaning clothes & hang drying in hotel bathrooms), and dish soap for cleaning bottles. The cute bag the dolphins come in was also useful for loading with other baby things, which kept them organized and separate from my toiletries (baby toothbrush, baby sunscreen, and thermometer, infant tylenol w/ syringe just in case). HIGHLY recommend this whole bundle for traveling parents and think it would make a really cute gift too.

Great bundle but already had some of the items

Really nice bundle but I already had the ezpz tiny cup and training straw system and I can't return part of the bundle. Overall it would make a really great bundle for first-time moms who are trying to navigate what they need when introducing solids to their mini
